Top Read: Written In Red
Anne Bishop is the wonderful author who
created this book for your enjoyment. She
enjoys gardening, music, and writing dark,
romantic stories. She is the author of fourteen
novels, including the award winning Black
Jewels series. The Black Jewel books are set in a world that is divided into two groups: those
who have the Blood (magic) and those who
don’t. The Blood are the ruling society and have a complex system of hierarchy and power
which depends on first the color of their Jewels and second on the caste their born into. I can’t
tell you more because I don’t want to spoil it.
This is a really cliche book that has perfectly perfect heroes and seriously evil bad guys. If you enjoy Written in Red and want to read more from this author, I would totally recommend this book This book is one of my top ten favorite books, because the blend of paranormal fiction, urban fantasy, and omniscient third person point of view brings the book to life and makes me feel for the characters throughout the book. Anne Bishop has captured me with her lovely writing and well put together characters and plot line.
Written in Red is the first book in The Others series. It is narrated in an omniscient third person vi-ew. A story narrated in third person means the narrator is not a figure in the story, but an “observer” who is outside of the action being described. Omniscient means that the narrator tells us what
all the characters are thinking. Both of these things allow the author to give more information to the reader in a short length of time. It also allows the author a bit of freedom from a “claustrophobic”
first person point of view, giving the reader a variety of characters. With an omniscient point of view, we can delve into the minds of multiple characters in order to forge a deeper connection with them, making this book a more interesting story. I really enjoyed omniscient third person point of view in Written in Red because I connected to more than one character’s emotions and problems which really made it more enjoyable. Additionally, the narrator is reliable because they demonstrate some knowledge about the characters and the different situations. This allows the reader to understand the characters and their problems, but keeps them from figuring out what is going on. In other words, it keeps you, the reader, from getting bored and figuring the characters out too quickly. One theme of the book is to learn from your mistakes. Throughout the book, there are hints of a rebellion caused by humans, but there are also stories were these rebellions were crushed in the past. When they were crushed, situations just got worse for the humans that rebelled, and for the people around them. The humans in the story need to start learning from their mistakes, so that they can live their lives peacefully with the Others instead of trying to fight them and take the world. The genre of Written in Red is paranormal/urban fantasy. Paranormal is a sub-genre of both romantic and speculative fiction. Books placed in the paranormal genre usually includes elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, blending together the themes from speculative fiction genres of fantasy, science fiction, and horror. On the other hand, the urban sub-genre of fantasy tells us that Written in Red took place in an urban setting in historical, modern, or futuristic periods. The genre, fantasy, means to imagine things, especially things that are impossible or improbable. If you’re really into these things, I would totally recommend this book. Other paranormal/urban fantasy books do not compare, like The Mortal Instruments series or the Twilight series. I read a lot, and I have to say that this is one of the top books in this genre. I don’t know about you, the reader, but I can tell you for sure that this paranormal/urban fantasy book will blow your socks off.
On that note, I highly encourage you to read Written in Red by Anne Bishop, and the rest of The Others series. This book can and will change your life in ways you couldn’t even imagine, by teaching
you to learn from past mistakes and to try and keep an open mind about things.
