New Apple Campus
In 2011, Steve Jobs pitched the idea of the Apple Spaceship to the Cupertino City Council. Seven years later, his idea has been brought to life and it now stands among the many other headquarters from which technology companies develop new products.
The campus consists of many different buildings, all with a different purpose. However, the main building, which gifts the campus with the name “the Apple Spaceship” is officially called the ring (based upon its circular shape). The building is the main workhouse where 12,000 Apple employees will be transferred, this process has already begun. Most of the employees will be moved from the original Apple campus (also located in Cupertino). Additionally, a fitness center, underground auditorium, and beautiful gardens populate the 2.8 million square feet of the campus, providing employees with a spacious workplace including all of the necessities they may need. The campus is closed to the public however, visitors can explore the visitor’s center, located across the street from the gated campus. The visitor center consists of a cafe, an augmented reality model of the campus, and a store where you can purchase both apple products and Apple spaceship merchandise.
The new campus utilizes many renewable resources for many differing reasons. Solar energy powers the whole facility, with panels line the top of the main building and the energy produced is spread to the other buildings on the campus. This creates a complex power grid that is able to keep the lights on at all hours of the day.
